EAST AURORA - On Saturday, October 5th, 400 bikers gathered at the start line of the EA2EVL Fondo, a charity bike ride that kicked off at 42 North Brewing in East Aurora. A light breeze, partly sunny skies and cool temperatures set the stage for an incredible ride, winding south along the rolling hills and fall foliage on Route 240 into the Village of Ellicottville. The event wrapped up with food, beverages and music for the finish line celebration at Holiday Valley.

Now in its fourth year, the EA2EVL Fondo - or non-competitive ride - raises awareness and funds to help open, build and maintain the 27-mile multi-use, recreational Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail (ECRT) that runs along a rail banked rail line from Orchard Park to Ashford, NY. Every year this event has reached maximum capacity, this year selling out at 400 riders and netting $45,000 to build more of the rail trail. The funds raised from this year’s event will help to develop trail sections in Orchard Park and Aurora, eventually completing the “Depot to Depot” trail section from Orchard Park Train Depot to the West Falls Train Depot.

“What a phenomenal turnout for this terrific event!” said Mary Brummer, ECRT Board President. “We had sunny weather, the ride was fantastic, and we had a great time. I am grateful to everyone who participated in this epic ride, including our loyal riders and sponsors, and our dedicated volunteers. Your support for Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail truly matters.”

Event sponsors this year were National Fuel, 42 North Brewing, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the Small Law firm with tech support provided by Tom’s Pro Bikes. Learn more about ECRT at www.ecattrail.org.
